Southern Big Country counties seeing the heaviest rains

ABILENE, Texas -

Rain began over West Central Texas in the morning hours of Thursday. It will continue into Friday evening.

Though rainfall rates have only been light to moderate in the Abilene area throughout the duration of the event, amounts through 11AM Friday have totaled 1.04 in. at Abilene Regional Airport. The heaviest showers have stayed in our southern counties where the tallies have been pretty impressive. San Angelo has recorded 3.01 in.

Some other notable amounts thus far through 11AM Friday:

Cross Plains: 3.10"

Brownwood: 2.18"

Brady: 2.36"

Robert Lee: 1.61"

Ballinger: 1.54"

Sterling City: 1.36"

Knox City: 1.73"

Coleman: 1.97"

Sweetwater: 0.54"

Snyder: 0.35"

Colorado City: 0.31"

KTXS Studio: 0.82"

Wet weather is expected to continue into this afternoon with some additional showers to be put in the rain gauge. We will see rain taper from northwest to southeast during the early evening hours.
