ABILENE, Texas -

The holiday weekend is ahead but summer isn't taking any time off.

After an afternoon of highs in the mid to upper 90s, we'll cool into the low 70s overnight. Friday starts out clear, but muggy.

Through the afternoon we're tracking highs warming into upper 90s and low triple digits. We'll see plenty of sunshine through the day with a light southwest wind at 5-10 mph.

Labor Day weekend starts out in the mid 70s before highs warm to around 100 by the afternoon. We're tracking more sunshine to kick off the holiday weekend.

Sunday, more of the same we'll see highs in the upper 90s.

Overnight a front will stall to our north, along the Texas-Oklahoma border. It won't make it far enough to cool us off at all but it will bring some slight rain chances to the forecast for Labor Day.

Monday begins in the mid 70s before we warm up to around 97 in the afternoon. Look for a 10% chance for rain, especially during the morning hours.

Tuesday, high pressure will be to our east, which will help to pull moisture up from the Gulf. This won't bring much in the way of rain chances but we will see a good mix of clouds and sun with some slightly cooler temps. Highs will make it into the mid 90s.

Wednesday and Thursday, more of the same. Afternoon clouds will help keep us a bit cooler with highs in the mid 90s. Overnight temps will cool into the low to mid 70s.
