Anthony Domol: Sunny, warmer Monday in forecast
After receiving some much needed rainfall late last week, that was about as perfect as a weekend weather-wise as you are going to get!
The high on Saturday reached 83 degrees here in Abilene and we rose to 84 on Sunday. More importantly, humidity levels were very comfortable under crystal clear blue skies.
The forecast here in the short term looks quiet with temps slowly increasing through the work week to near 90 or just above. It appears as though some scattered showers and thunderstorms can become possible very late Friday night, but more likely into Saturday with an approaching cold front.
Today look for plentiful sunshine with highs moving just a bit higher into the mid to upper 80s. We will call it 87 officially here in Abilene. South winds will be breezy at 10-15 mph.
Tonight clear conditions will continue with lows very close to seasonal values in the lower 60s.
Early on Tuesday, a system moving through the central plains will send a cold front through our area turning winds to the east and northeast. This front will be very weak and won't have much of an impact on our sensible weather. Mostly sunny skies can be expected with highs very similar to those seen on Monday in the mid to upper 80s.
Wednesday through Friday we will see an increase in warmth with temperatures around 90 or just above. This surge in heat will be ahead of a cold front expected to approach the Big Country on Saturday. Otherwise, mostly sunny skies can be expected in the mid to late work week time frame.
The cold front that moves in on Saturday will pass through with some scattered showers and thundershowers just ahead of it. Behind this weather maker, temperatures will be cooler with highs in the lower 80s for Saturday and Sunday.
